Carmel Country Club

Charlotte, NC

Country/Golf Club with 600 or More Full-Privilege Members Category

With over 22 years of experience in club management, John Schultz has been an innovator in the club industry, earning the esteemed Certified Club Manager distinction.

John is the General Manager of Carmel Country Club, a position he accepted in 2003 after GM roles at Chattahoochee Country Club and the Country Club of Little Rock. In his six years at Carmel, he has stimulated tangible member participation in all areas. Under his leadership, the club has reenergized its dining program increasing à la carte usage by $700,000 and banquet revenues by $1,000,000 with the net gain from these areas being reinvested into the club’s social and entertainment calendar. He has retooled many of the department head staff along with adding two new key management level staff positions.

John was able to initiate new fiscal policies allowing Carmel to repay all its debt in 2007, capital that was derived from operating income and initiation fees. Major facility achievements include extensive clubhouse renovations and construction of a new $5 million pool complex. Member’s equity has also increased $15 million, and Carmel has accepted an average of 100 new members for the previous four years. Currently, Carmel is undergoing a major renovation to their second golf course and adjacent areas with architect Rees Jones at a budget of $12 million.

John is a graduate of Louisiana State University and a Marine Corps veteran, where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. He and his wife Cathy have two children.
